CONCENTRATOR

OPERATING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • CONCENTRATOR PLACEMENT:
    • Well-ventilated area (NOT IN A CLOSET).
    • Away from walls, drapes, curtains, bedspreads, etc.
    • Away from combustible materials (grease, lotions, solvents, etc.).
    • At least 15 feet from heat sources (smoking, matches, stoves, heaters, toasters, hair dryers, etc.)
  • CONCENTRATOR USE:
    • Plug into appropriate electrical outlet. DO NOT plug into extension cords or multi-outlet adapters.
    • DO NOT use as a table. NEVER place anything on top of concentrator drinks, plants, books, papers, covers, etc.
    • TURN ON concentrator with power switch:
      • i. Motor should begin to run.
      • ALARM will sound for a few seconds until pressure is reached.
    • ADJUST LITER FLOW:
      • i. Rotary Flow Control: turn the knob until prescribed liter flow appears in the flow tube
      • ii. Flow “Tube”: adjust the knob until the MIDDLE OF THE BALL is at the prescribed liter flow.
    • Fit the nasal cannula to face:
      • i. Insert the 2 prongs into nose – prongs must point upward and curve into nostrils
      • ii. Slide tubing over and behind each ear.
      • iii. Slide adjuster upward under the chin – NOT TOO TIGHT!
    • Use the concentrator:
      • i. AT THE PRESCRIBED LITER FLOW – NO MORE, NO LESS.
      • ii. FOR THE NUMBER OF HOURS EACH DAY AS PRESCRIBED.
      • iii. FOR THE PRESCRIBED ACTIVITIES.
  • CLEANING AND DISINFECTION:
    • Clean Tubing, Nasal Cannula, and Humidifier Jar as directed in the Cleaning Instructions provided to you. (Change cannula every 2 weeks)
    • Wipe concentrator cabinet with clean, damp (WATER ONLY) cloth.
    • NEVER SPRAY ANYTHING ON OR INTO CONCENTRATOR, SUCH AS CLEANING PRODUCTS (FANTASTIC, FORMULA 409, PINESOL, ETC.)
    • CLEAN AIR INLET FILTER WEEKLY:
      • i. Remove filter element.
      • ii. Wash in warm, soapy water.
      • iii. Rinse completely.
      • iv. Squeeze in paper towel to dry.
      • v. Replace filter element.
  • PRECAUTIONS:
    • NEVER SMOKE while using the concentrator.
    • KEEP AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME.
    • Use only in a WELL-VENTILATED area.
    • NEVER USE OIL BASED PRODUCTS, such as:
      • i. Vaseline,
      • ii. Chap stick,
      • iii. Oily lotions or creams.
    • NEVER CHANGE LITER FLOW without your doctor’s permission.
    • CLEAN CONCENTRATOR SUPPLIES as directed.
  • TROUBLESHOOTING
    • IF ALARM SOUNDS:
      • i. Make sure plug is in outlet,
      • ii. Make sure outlet has power (check fuse/circuit breaker),
      • iii. Check concentrator CIRCUIT BREAKER,
      • iv. USE BACK-UP OXYGEN SUPPLY.
    • NO OXYGEN FLOWING from nasal cannula:
      • i. Check for LOOSE TUBING CONNECTIONS,
      • ii. Check for LOOSE HUMIDIFIER JAR,
      • iii. Check for BUBBLES IN HUMIDIFIER or place nasal cannula in glass of water and check for bubbles,
      • iv. Check for BLOCKED INLET FILTER,
    • Call your servicing location if you have problems or questions

CYLINDER OXYGEN

OPERATING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • CYLINDER PLACEMENT:
    • Well-ventilated area (NOT IN A CLOSET).
    • Away from walls, drapes, curtains, bedspreads, etc.
    • Away from combustible materials (grease, lotions, solvents, etc.).
    • At least 8 feet from heat sources (smoking, matches, stoves, heaters, toasters, hairdryers, etc.)
  • CYLINDER USE:
    • DO NOT cover or drape anything around cylinder.
    • TURN ON cylinder by turning cylinder valve in a counterclockwise (toward the left) direction. Open valve one (1) to two (2) turns.
    • ADJUST LITER FLOW:
      • i. Gauge Flow meter: turn the flow adjustment knob (usually to the right) while observing the position of the indicator needle on the FLOW GAUGE until prescribed liter flow is indicated by the needle.
      • ii. “Tube” Flow meter: adjust the knob until the MIDDLE OF THE BALL is at the prescribed liter flow.
    • Fit the nasal cannula to face:
      • i. Insert the 2 prongs into nose: prongs must point upward and curve into nostrils.
      • ii. Slide tubing over and behind each ear.
      • iii. Slide adjuster upward under the chin – NOT TOO TIGHT!
    • Use the oxygen:
      • i. AT THE PRESCRIBED LITER FLOW – NO MORE, NO LESS.
      • ii. FOR THE NUMBER OF HOURS EACH DAY AS PRESCRIBED.
      • iii. FOR THE PRESCRIBED ACTIVITIES.
  • CLEANING AND DISINFECTION:
    • Clean Tubing, Nasal Cannula and Humidifier Jar as directed in the Cleaning Instructions provided to you.
    • Cylinder and Regulator: if necessary wipe concentrator cabinet with clean, damp (WATER ONLY) cloth. NEVER SPRAY ANYTHING ON OR INTO REGULATOR, SUCH AS FANTASTIC, FORMULA 409, PINESOL, ETC.
    • NEVER CHANGE LITER FLOW without your doctor’s permission.
  • PRECAUTIONS
    • NEVER SMOKE while using the concentrator.
    • KEEP AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME.
    • Use only in a WELL-VENTILATED area.
    • NEVER USE OIL BASED PRODUCTS, such as:
      • i. Vaseline,
      • ii. Chap stick,
      • iii. Oily lotions or creams.
  • TROUBLESHOOTING – NO OXYGEN FLOWING From nasal cannula:
    • Check for LOOSE TUBING CONNECTIONS,
    • Check for LOOSE HUMIDIFIER JAR,
    • Check for BUBBLES IN HUMIDIFIER or place nasal cannula in glass of water and check for bubbles,
    • Cylinder is turned off.
    • Cylinder is empty.
    • Liter flow has been turned off.

LIQUID OXYGEN

OPERATING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • LOX SYSTEM PLACEMENT –
    • Well-ventilated area (NOT IN A CLOSET).
    • Away from walls, drapes, curtains, bedspreads, etc.
    • Away from combustible materials (grease, lotions, solvents, etc.)
    • At least 8 feet from heat sources (smoking, matches, stoves, heaters, toasters, hair dryers, etc.)
  • LOX SYSTEM USE
    • DO NOT use as a table – NEVER place anything on top of LOX System (drinks, plants, covers, etc).
    • ADJUST LITER FLOW:
      • i. Rotary Flow Control: turn the knob until prescribed liter flow appears.
      • ii. Flow Tube: adjust the knob until the MIDDLE OF THE BALL is at the prescribed liter flow.
  • FIT THE NASAL CANNULA TO FACE
    • Insert the 2 prongs into nose: prongs must point upward and curve into nostrils.
    • Slide tubing over and behind each ear.
    • Slide adjuster upward under the chin. DO NOT ADJUST TOO TIGHT.
  • ALWAYS KEEP PORTABLE UNIT IN UPRIGHT POSITION.
  • USE THE LOX SYSTEM:
    • AT THE PRESCRIBED LITER FLOW-NO MORE/NO LESS.
    • FOR THE NUMBER OF HOURS EACH DAY AS PRESCRIBED.
    • FOR THE PRESCRIBED ACTIVITIES.
  • FILLING INSTRUCTIONS FOR PORTABLE UNIT:
    • Wipe both of the FILLING CONNECTORS with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust and moisture.
    • Turn off flow selector of portable unit.
    • Attach portable unit to stationary reservoir.
    • Open the FILL VALVE (could be a lever, button, or key) to start Fill Process:
      • A loud “hissing” noise is normal.
      • Portable unit is full when “hissing” noise changes and a vapor cloud begins to issue from stationary reservoir.
      • Filling time takes approximately TWO MINUTES. ALWAYS STAY WITH UNIT WHILE IT IS FILLING.
    • Disengage the portable unit from the stationary reservoir; if portable unit does not separate easily, the VALVES MAY BE FROZEN TOGETHER.
      • Wait until valves warm up to disengage (usually 5 – 10 minutes.)
      • DO NOT TOUCH any of the frosted areas; frost can cause skin damage from frostbite.
    • Adjust liter flow.
  • CLEANING AND DISENFECTION.
    • Clean tubing, nasal cannula, and humidifier jar as directed in the Cleaning Instructions provided to you.
    • LOX system: wipe LOX units with clean, damp (WATER ONLY) cloth.
    • NEVER SPRAY ANYTHING ON OR INTO LOX SYSTEM, SUCH AS FANTASTIC, FORMULA 409, PINESOL, ETC.)
  • PRECAUTIONS:
    • NEVER SMOKE while using LOX system.
    • KEEP AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME.
    • Use only in WELL-VENTILATED area.
    • NEVER use OIL BASED PRODUCTS, such as:
      • i. Vaseline,
      • ii. Chap stick,
      • iii. Oily lotions/creams.
    • NEVER CHANGE LITER FLOW without your doctor’s permission.
    • CLEAN LOX SYSTEM and SUPPLIES as directed.
    • Keep unit on flat level surface. DO NOT TIP OVER.
    • In the even of accidental tip over, cautiously place unit back in upright position.
    • NEVER TOUCH FROSTED PARTS OF LOX SYSTEM.
    • AVOID CONTACT WITH LOX STREAM WHILE FILLING.
    • In the event of a LOX leak:
      • i. Attempt to reattach portable unit.
      • ii. Open windows and doors and leave the area.
      • iii. Contact PSMS at 866-990-7900
  • TROUBLESHOOTING.
    • NO OXYGEN FLOWING from nasal cannula.
      • Check for LOOSE TUBING CONNECTIONS.
      • Check for LOOSE HUMIDIFIER JAR.
      • Check for BUBBLES IN HUMIDIFIER or place nasal cannula in glass of water and check for bubbles.
      • Check for BLOCKED INLET FILTER.
      • Unit EMPTY or FAULTY.
      • FLOW SELECTOR IF OFF or BETWEEN SETTINGS.
